Feminine Fashions Past and Present: All about women's wear, from the earliest times to our days

Paris: Art - Gout - Beaute. Drawn, Described and Coloured by Huguette Rouit. Signed and hand-numbered (60) of an unspecified edition. Unbound folio with silk ribbon ties. Marbled paper-covered boards backed and cornered in maroon calf. [1], 54 loose color plates. Beautiful folio overview of women's fashion and design -- "Dresses and patterns, materials, hats, headdesses, jewellery, shoes, combs etc" -- from Huguette Rouit for the French Art Deco imprint Art Gout Beaute. Furniture, garments, and more from ancient Egypt to 19th century European styles are illustrated throughout 54 full-color stamped plated, accompanied by spare textual background ("Clear outlines convey more than long explanations", Plate 3"), in the less common English translation.

Pasted-in (French language) plate to inside of front board marks this copy as number 60, numbered and signed by Huguette Rouit, as well as a pasted-in card presenting this copy to Boston business magnate G.B. Johnson from editor Henri Barbet.

Bibliographic background for the numbered edition and the amount of English translation plates versus the original French were not easily located, but no English language editions have been sighted on the market or in sales records to our best effort. Good condition. Marbled paper chipped to edges; spine frayed and separating at extremities. Plates clean and complete save some light edgewear and shallow chipping. Item #3938
