Woodson (1875-1950), often referred to as the "Father of Negro History". In 1915 Woodson founded the Journal of Negro History and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History in 1915, and while helming both produced a number of works and achievements, with this being his contribution to the African-American tradition of oration, published the year before he founded "Negro History Week" in the second week of February -- a holiday that forty years later expanded nationally to the whole month, which we continue to celebrate as Black History Month.
