Item #2411 Retropective. Tom of Finland.

Retropective

Los Angeles: Tom of Finland Foundation, 1989. First edition, second printing. Signature-bound, 8.5 x 11 in., pictorial wraps, [192]. Collection of work from one of the premier illustrators and representatives of the 20th century gay liberation movement. This retrospective spans from 1946 to the year prior to publication, 1987, by the Tom of Finland foundation---the nonprofit created in 1984 by Tom and Dirk Dehner to preserve, and promote the cultural merits of, erotic art.The evolution of Tom's style is shown in the graphics of leathermen, bikers, cowboys, cops, lumberjacks, hardhats, soldiers, sailors and other studs which Tom described as drawing he'd make to arouse himself, and if his own work didn't, he'd have to try harder. All of this iconography and legacy is well-represented in this grouping and introduced by photographer, illustrator and photographer Dennis Forbes/Fred Bisonnes. Very good condition, spine creased, ends lightly rubbed and worn, lower cover spine joints minimal rubbing, cover wraps lightly nicked and creased with some wear at corners and edges. Item #2411
