Hardcover 5 3/8" x 7 1/2", blue cloth boards with gilt lettering, no dust jacket, 224 pp. Early printing of Butts' third published novel, a modernist reinvention of the grail mythology centering around a group of artists and drifters who find themselves living in rural England. Armed with Madness is the story of their relationships and the ritualistic practices in which they were engaged. This edition published by leftist house Wishart, though this is a later 1928 printing than the original edition with three Cocteau-drawn plates. Good condition, worn and rubbed cloth spine ends and along seams with a 2" lateral tear to rear board gutter, mildly rubbed edges and corners; some yellowing to pages with loose spots at end papers.
